Wobble
December 2003 · Still Life
The image had been vividly depicted in my mind for weeks. Finally, I found the time to execute it. The idea was to create a distorted reflection through the glass.
1 - I made a glass tank with dimensions of 3" high x 2' deep x 3' wide.
2 - The background was blue paper with a 60W blue bulb behind it.
3 - I placed some Blu Tack on top of a film container and pressed the glass onto it carefully. Gently, I adjusted the glass to the angle I wanted. This sounds easier than it was. It took me more than 30 minutes to get it the way I wanted.
4 - Then I filled the tank with water. I added dye to get the blue hue.
5 - I adjusted the lights and glass to get the desired reflections.
6 - After more than ten attempts, I finally got this shot.
“I learned a great deal about lighting, setup, and how to create mood.”
7 - For better effect, I edited the reflection in post-production.
Conclusion:
From shooting still life like this, I learned a great deal about lighting, setup, and how to create mood. I faced many obstacles while doing the setup. Still life photography, like many other genres, is all about problem solving.
