Pilgrimage

The area around Jokhang Temple in Tibet is a good place to photograph human interest. Many devotees come here early in the morning for prayers. But honestly, shooting here can be quite difficult. First of all, the security measures are very strict. There are enforcers everywhere: police, plainclothes police, armed police, and even military patrols. Tourists cannot stay too long near the temple, especially in the square. Nor can you set up a tripod in the square or sit on the ground to take pictures, or law enforcement officers will come forward to warn you and ask you to leave.

Also, with so many people coming and going, and so many different characters, it is not easy to create a composition.

I found my subject near the gate. She was spinning her prayer wheel while staring at the ground. From the expression on her face, I could sense worry, uncertainty, and helplessness.

Was her loved one sick? Or was she in the midst of adversity?
