Illusion

I found these hook-like stems at a recreation park. I was fascinated by their shape. Strangely, that night I had a dream. Like the tentacles of an octopus, these stems emerged from the water. There was a lone boat sailing aimlessly towards them, as if it was on a mysterious voyage.

Even though the dream was vague and brief, it made a deep impression on me. When I woke up, I knew it would be an interesting idea to reproduce what I had seen in the dream.

1 - I had little problem recreating the water, as I had built a tank for other assignments. The water was darkened with black ink.

2 - I had not folded a paper boat in years, so it was time to rediscover my skill. Ironically, it took me 30 minutes to fold a simple boat like that. I then used Blu Tack to hold the boat in place. Blu Tack is an excellent water-resistant material.

3 - The island was also created using Blu Tack. I have to admit, I just love these sticky materials.

4 - I used tungsten light to illuminate the scene and provide the golden tone for the shot. The tone was further enhanced with a warm filter.

5 - After many trials, I finally brought the dream into reality.
